Nursing trailblazers advance cardiovascular prevention and management strategies
Patient engagement fosters trust.

Nurses play a pivotal role in advancing cardiovascular prevention and management strategies around the globe. Their leadership in guiding evidence-based practices, innovative care models and cultural competence with diverse populations in both health care and community settings is the foundation for this morning’s session, “Global Innovations in Cardiovascular Prevention and Nursing Leadership.”
Erin Poe Ferranti, PhD, MPH, RN, FAHA, FPCNA, FAAN, will moderate the session, leading a panel of nursing trailblazers who will share those highly effective strategies. Ferranti is an associate professor of nursing at the Emory University School of Nursing in Atlanta.
“Nurses are the most trusted profession, and in this challenging time of increased mistrust of health care and public health, nurses must embrace this role and be the voice and co-providers of evidence-based cardiovascular health information and care,” Ferranti said. “Nurses are often the health care provider most engaged in the care of patients and advocacy, and we must help guide patients in their self-management and care, especially in these uncertain times.”
The session’s panelists will address various topics, including unique models of nurse-led cardiovascular care and the importance of global collaboration and connection. Additionally, Ferranti said the panel will reflect and echo four key journal articles relevant to the topic. They include Policy Action for CVD Prevention: A Call to Action for Nurses Globally, The Global Cardiovascular Nursing Leadership Forum: Enhancing Cardiovascular Health Worldwide, Nurse-Based Models for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention From Research to Clinical Practice and Contemporary Perspectives on Preparing Nurse Leaders for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention.
Ferranti said she expects participants to gain clarity in the importance of collaborating and optimizing the role of the nurse through full scope of practice to ensure evidence-based cardiovascular care around the globe.
