Fueling the Heart Powered movement

Protecting NIH funding a top priority of the Heart Association’s Heart Powered grassroots network.

Hp Slogan Full Color

The American Heart Association introduces Heart Powered, the newly rebranded grassroots advocacy network, during Scientific Sessions 2025. Formerly known as You’re the Cure, American Heart Association Heart Powered was announced earlier this year to help shape science-based public policy that improves cardiovascular health for everyone, everywhere. This national movement builds on more than four decades of nonpartisan advocacy and includes individuals, families, communities — and experts like you. The Heart Association invites you to help drive the policies that make that innovation possible.

One of our most urgent priorities is protecting federal funding for the National Institutes of Health. NIH-supported biomedical research is the backbone of progress in cardiovascular medicine. As experts and advocates, your voice carries weight with members of Congress who make decisions about this critical investment.

“Scientific Sessions is where science meets action,” said Amit Khera, MD, director of UT Southwestern’s Preventive Cardiology Program, 2024 chair of the Scientific Sessions planning committee and current chair of the association’s Advocacy Coordinating Committee. “With American Heart Association Heart Powered, we’re giving scientific leaders a platform to advocate for the policies that make our research and care possible. Your voice matters — now more than ever.”

The Heart Association’s advocacy priorities extend beyond NIH funding to other critical issues. Whether it is preventing tobacco use and nicotine addiction, ensuring access to healthy food, increasing access to health care coverage, strengthening the chain of survival or improving systems of care, American Heart Association Heart Powered informs policy with science, empowers advocates to share their voices and engages communities through action.

Want to learn more? Visit the American Heart Association Heart Powered (Booth 5018) in the Science & Technology Hall, pick up information in the Membership Lounge in the Heart Hub or watch the Sessions monitors and pre-meeting slides in session rooms to join our national grassroots movement.

Joining American Heart Association Heart Powered is simple. Text SESSIONS to 46839 to become part of the network. Your story can inspire others and amplify the impact of our collective advocacy.

Together, we can ensure that the science shared at Scientific Sessions translates into real-world progress — through policy, funding and community action. Let’s unite to change the future of health.
